It was a scary time for not just me but everyone on the the east side of town. It was a rough town but no one was prepared for an event like this. We woke up early in the morning, we barely got any sleep baby wouldn’t stop crying and the dog wouldn’t stop barking. We all hid in the basement of the house, sirens went off as we heard on the radio TV any digital device the announcer said “We are now going into the free zone, any weapons, guns etc will be legal from now until tomorrow morning, have fun”. It was like someone had taken over all devices in town, a guy with a white mask appeared on the screen. “BOOM BOOM BOOM” we heard 3 gunshots, soon enough there was banging on the basement door mum and dad pushed us to the back of the basement where they couldn’t get to, they handed us the baby and the dog and kissed us on the forehead like they were going on a vacation except the vacation was a no returning one. Another gunshot fired, I peeked out to see what was happening and there was blood dripping down the stairs. We didn’t see any bodies, but at that moment we knew that we were orphans now. There was a little hole in the ground that we could fit through so we followed it all the way down, there was nothing there except a torch and a note saying “dear kids, you’ve found the spot this is where we want you to stay until the free zones over please don’t leave”. We couldn’t trust the note how do we know its our parents it didn’t have any clues what if it was someone who tried to catch us? We quickly ran up back into the basement and that where we stayed for the night, scared and worried. The lights flickered and then went off, then the sirens started, it had ended, we knew it wouldn’t be the last time... By LILY O’ROURKE
